F. A. CUP: ASANTE KOTOKO vs WASSAMAN UNITED

Asante Kotoko hosts Wassaman United in the Round 16 of the MTN F. A. CUP, on Sunday 3 pm.

Fresh off the away draw at the Dormaa Park against Aduana Stars last Monday, Steve Polack’s men will be hoping to conquer Wassaman United on Sunday afternoon to continue the search for success in another cup competition this time, after existing the same competition at the quarter finals last season by Bechem United.

Wassaman advanced through to the round 16 after knocking out another Ashanti Region team King Faisal, Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko reached this stage by defeating Division 1 side Proud United 1-0 away from home, a goal scored by Baba Mahama.

Steve Polack speaking to Nhyira FM, said “Our next game is a cup game so I think I will be playing players that were not active but with a mindset that we will want to win the game”

Wassaman United, last season were eliminated at this stage by arch rivals Hearts of Oak, by three goals to nil at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Amos Frimpong, Baba Mahama, Saddick Adams, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Ahmed Adams are likely to be given a rest on Sunday.

Asante Kotoko are without the suspended Jackson Owusu after the midfielder was given a red card in their match against Aduana Stars last Monday.  Also goalkeeper Ernest Sowah, who’s still serving a suspension will also be missing in action.

Augustine Sefah who joined the Porcupines on a short term deal last month is likely to start at the right back after being an unused sub in our past games.

Competition for places,  in the playing body had seen, Ohene Brenya, Evans Quao, Attah Kusi, Richard Osei Agyemang having a minimum game time, but they will be in contention for a starting spot on Sunday.

The last time Asante Kotoko won a game at home in all competitions this season came against WAFA, in the month of March in the Ghana Premier League.

This is Asante Kotoko’s first home game in the competition, after playing BYF Academy and Proud United away from home in the early stages. 

Quarter final stage awaits Asante Kotoko if they able to beat their opponent on Sunday.

Asante Kotoko will again host Wa All Stars in the matchday 19 of the Ghana Premier League.
